Stay Current with the Newest Research: Preprint Citation Index

Introducing Preprint Citation Index, a new tool available from the NIH Library that can help you discover preprints for key research articles ahead of formal journal publication. This standalone database on the Web of Science platform indexes nearly two million preprints from five international repositories: arXiv, bioRxiv, chemRxiv, medRxiv and Preprints.org. Content is available from 1991 forward, and is updated daily. Use Preprint Citation Index to:

  • Monitor new research across several preprint repositories with automated alerts
  • Track new developments in preprints alongside journal articles
  • Quickly understand a preprint’s relationship to other scholarly research items
  • Discover preprints connected to author profiles and peer-reviewed literature in Web of Science
  • Examine the connections between preprints and corresponding published articles
  • Link directly to the preprint repositories to view each version of the preprint and download the full text

Learn more about Preprint Citation Index with this reference guide or introductory video. Preprint Citation Index is available to staff working on the NIH network or VPN.
