Celebrate National Library Week with the NIH Library

It’s National Library Week and we are excited to celebrate the NIH librarians, services, and resources which make the NIH Library YOUR biomedical research library.

Our Librarians
We begin by highlighting our dedicated team of information professionals--your librarians--who serve the NIH research community. They can help with every stage of your research, from expert literature searches and specialized training sessions to publication assistance. And…did you know that each Institute or Center has a dedicated NIH Librarian? Find yours and contact them today to get help with your research needs:

Our Research Services
The NIH Library provides extensive services to help NIH staff with every stage of the research lifecycle. Check out how the NIH Library supports NIH research in this 4-minute video:

Our Research Resources
The NIH Library curates and provides access to a premier collection of resources to help NIH and HHS make biomedical discoveries and improve health. Dive into the links below to explore the extensive resources available to NIH staff:

  • Journals: access over 20,000 online current and historical journals, most with complete archives
  • eBooks: extend your research with our collection of over 190,000 scholarly eBooks
  • Databases: search over 50 searchable reference databases including PubMed@NIH, Web of Science, Scopus, and UpToDate

NIH staff can access these online resources via the NIH Library website using the NIH VPN or through the NIH Library’s remote access service. Eligible HHS employees should connect through the remote access service.

Our Workspaces
Located in Building 10 near the south entrance, the NIH Library has an open reading room with comfortable chairs and natural light, access to computers, high-performance workstations, and a green terrace space (perfect for a meeting or lunch outside). Learn more about the various workspaces and computers available in the Library:

And, if you are looking for a quiet space to study, the Library has private rooms for individual use. They are located downstairs and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, no reservation required.

YOUR Award-Winning Library
We are thrilled to announce that the NIH Library has been honored with the MLA Research Advancement in Health Sciences Librarianship Award, a testament to our commitment to excellence in serving the biomedical research community. Hear from NIH Library Director, Nancy Muir, in this short video about what the award means to us and how the Library works with NIH researchers to turn discovery into health.
