Are you are interested in analyzing scientific publications to identify productivity, collaboration, research topics, and citation impact? Register for the NIH Library’s Introduction to Bibliometrics training series this July. These four one-hour webinars cover bibliometrics basics to help you get started.

  • Introduction to Bibliometrics   
    July 7, 12:00 ‒ 1:00 pm   
    This introductory class covers key bibliometric theories and concepts including an overview of different types of metrics (including alternative metrics) and a closer look at the limitations and potential misuse of bibliometrics.   
     
  • Bibliometrics Data Sources    
    July 14, 12:00 ‒ 1:00 pm   
    This class will compare data sources for bibliometric analyses, including Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Dimensions.ai.   
     
  • Bibliometrics Tools   
    July 21, 12:00 ‒ 1:00 pm   
    This class introduces a toolkit of online resources for network analysis and dashboard creation and includes an overview of bibliometric analysis tools from the NIH Office of Portfolio Analysis (OPA) and subscription tools from Clarivate.   
     
  • Bibliometrics Use Case Walkthrough   
    July 28, 11:00 am ‒ 12:15 pm   
    This session provides demonstrations on locating publications in Web of Science, analyzing data in Web of Science and InCites to locate country-specific metrics and first/last authorship data, and visualization of data in VoSViewer. 

The NIH Library's Bibliometric Service offers publication analysis services to NIH staff, including creation of customized reports, Altmetric Reports, tutorials on bibliometrics tools and databases, and group trainings. Join the NIH Library Bibliometrics and Data Science Training and Support Team on Microsoft Teams to access slides and recorded webinars from past bibliometrics trainings.
