Science of Science (Sci2) Tool (Open Source, Freely Available)

Sci2 is a free, modular toolset designed by researchers at Indiana University for the study of science. It can be used for temporal, geospatial, topical, and network analysis, and visualizations of scholarly datasets.

The Sci2 tool allows users to clean, analyze, and visualize a wide variety of data formats. Although it was designed for the study of science (looking at scientific networks and publications) it can be used for data visualization in a variety of disciplines. The tool was built using the Cyberinfrastructure Shell (CIShell), an open-source software framework for integrating data sets, algorithms and computing resources. Sci2's algorithms give users the ability to analyze data from social media sites, extract networks from text files, preprocess a variety of data formats, and apply burst detection.

Users can upload a wide variety of data formats including XML, Endnote, Scopus, and NSF files, CSV, and more. The Sci2 tool is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
