Launch of Beta Search Engine: First Step

Beta Search Engine, First Step, Gets Launched for Open House

The NIH Library launched a beta search engine during the Open House on October 22, 2009. The search engine retrieves information from several databases and resources at the same time:

  • PubMed
  • Web of Science
  • Scopus
  • EMBASE
  • and many more
It displays the results from all the various sources in one location. This allows the user to discover information from all these important sources, and to expand searching beyond Google and PubMed.

The beta search engine has innovative features:
  • clusters that group similar ideas in different papers to aid discovery
  • topic graphs that present information in a visual format
  • semantic search concepts that aid in exploration and discovery
